Barista | Sea Point – Cape Town | Children’s Playhouse

Nationally expanding Children’s Playhouse is opening in Cape Town! We are looking for experienced BARISTA to join the team!

Start date: 1st March 2025

Baristas need a variety of skills to memorize drink recipes, learn how to operate equipment and provide efficient customer service. Although Baristas are mainly responsible for making and serving beverages to customers, they have other duties.

These include:
  • Greeting customers in a friendly manner and taking food and drink orders.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills to effectively interact with coworkers and customers.
  • Preparing and serving beverages such as espresso-based drinks, tea, milkshakes and smoothies.
  • Preparing and serving food items such as cakes, sandwiches, wraps and pastries.
  • Answering customers’ questions about menu choices.
  • Promoting and recommending menu options to customers.
  • Taking payment from customers.
  • Tracking and ordering inventory for cafe and beverage supplies, such as coffee beans, milk, napkins and cups.
  • Maintaining espresso grinders, coffee machines and other equipment by cleaning, troubleshooting and scheduling repairs.
  • Keeping the work environment and cafe seating area clean, sanitary and organised.
  • Responding to and resolving customer concerns or complaints.
  • Evaluating and modifying processes to improve efficiency and quality of service.
  • Attracting new customers and refining the menu.
Candidate expectations:
  • Valid work permit and/or SA ID
  • Relevant Barista qualification or certificate
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a Barista role
  • Sober habits
Salary package:
  • Barista salary: R50 per hour for a 45-hour week = R9000 per month
  • 15 days annual leave (subject to the operational needs of the employer)
  • Working hours:
    • Tuesday – Saturday (8:30am – 4:30pm / 8 hours)
    • Sunday (8:30am – 1:30pm / 5 hours)
  • Morning tea break = 15 minutes
  • Lunch break = half an hour
  • Afternoon tea break = 15 minutes
  • Employees are entitled to a sandwich from the shop for lunch as well as 1 x beverage
