Before we knew it, we are smack bang in the Holiday Season with all the Christmas Decorations up in the Shopping Malls, Restaurants and Hotels, the slightly annoying Christmas carols are on repeat where by the end of this week all the staff knows the words by heart. But what a wonderful time of the year it is!
In our retail sector, the customers are (mostly) friendly and the spend per head in our stores are reaching targets, so hopefully all the staff are getting commissions and incentives to motivate them for the long hours.
We are also finally feeling the recovery of Covid 19 and our airports are filling up with tourists to visit our beautiful country. Our hospitality staff is working 16 hours a day to accommodate and make the experience one of the best in the World.
Here are some tips to our hard-working retail and hospitality staff to make it through the Holiday Season:
- Stay positive!
It isn’t always easy, but when you are positive and smiling the world will smile with you! Your day will go so much faster if you harbour positive energy.
- Stay hydrated!
The most important thing, drink lots of water! We know you don’t get time to take a break and eat something; but make time to have a healthy snack when you can and always have a bottle of water close by.
- Get enough sleep when you are off duty……..
The time you are off duty will feel too short; but try and spend it with loved ones and get enough rest. By the time your shift starts again you need to be re-energised and ready for action!
- Have something to look forward to
Possibly the most difficult part of our retail and hospitality staff during this time is the feeling of missing out. Everyone is on holiday or doing Christmas Shopping or having lunch or dinner with loved ones when you must work. Try and have something to look forward to; a weekend away with family or friends, that awesome pair of shoes you have been eyeing, take-aways for the evening so you don’t have to cook or having a night off and getting a babysitter for the kids.
The best quote for us to motivate our retail and hospitality staff during this Silly Season is by Albert Einstein:
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
When you are feeling you are losing your balance, just keep moving and remember the end is near and you are doing an amazing job!
